Meeting new friends
Today’s your first class at (any institute). There are at least 15 to 35 learners in the class. Do you know them all? Of course not. Don’t you feel like introducing yourself to them? Surely you do. After a few classes, some of them will be your best friends. You’ll get an opportunity to practice and discuss with them. They too will like your company. Let’s know one another by taking an interview.
The students at first will read the following questions loudly and try to understand the meaning of the questions. Before starting, work out which questions to ask. For example:
- What’s your name?/ May I know your name?/ Would you mind telling me your name?/ How may I call you?/ Could you tell me your name Please?
- Where are you from?/ Where do you come from?
- How old are you?/ May I know how old you are?
- Are you Bangladeshi (nationality)?/ What is your country of origin?
- How many people are there in your family altogether?
- What’s your father’s job?/ What does your father do?/ What does your mother do?
(Wrong: What is your father?) - Have you got any brothers?/ How many sisters do you have?/ How many brothers or sisters are you?
- Are you still at school/college/university?
- In which year did you leave your school/college/university?
- How long have you been studying (English or any course)?
- What do you do?/ What’s your present occupation?/ What is your profession?
- May I know about your interests?
- What’s your favorite color? Why?
- Who’s your favorite person?
- Have you ever visited any foreign countries?
- What’s your main ambition?/ What do you wish to be?
- Can we be friends?
